Mike Blanc Makes His Pick

This Florida high school standout makes his college choice.

Deerfield Beach, Fla.--Mike Blanc, who visited Arizona State over the weekend, has become Auburn's latest football verbal commitment.

"It's Auburn," Blanc told Inside the Auburn Tigers. "I am committed to the Tigers. Coach Tommy Tuberville can only make one in-home visit as a head coach and he will be by to see me and my family on Monday. I am excited about my decision."

The 6-4, 270-pounder, who was a four-year starter at Deerfield Beach High, played end as a freshman and moved to tackle as a sophomore. He played offensive tackle, too, as a junior and senior. He is expected to play on the offensive line for the Tigers.

Blanc played in the Dade-Broward All-Star Game last week and previously played in Florida's North-South All-Star Game.

He chose the Tigers over Michigan State and Rutgers in addition to Arizona State, where he visited over the weekend.

"I liked the campus at Arizona State, but I wasn't real crazy about being out in the desert," he says. "Once you get out of Tempe, which is a nice place, there is nothing there. Also, Arizona State is too far away from home. The plane ride took four hours to get there."

"Auburn is the one visit that really stood out over the others," he says. "I like the way the team is so together and I liked the players there. I am very spiritual person and I felt like A player who attended Auburn football camps the past two years, Blanc says he enjoyed his official visit to Auburn in January, a week before heading out to Arizona State.

Blanc is a player who could play on either side of the ball in college. "Most of the coaches like me better on defense, but I find playing offensive line real easy," he says. "Most defensive ends try to use quickness and I have enough to keep up with them."

Commenting on Auburn, Blanc says, "The players have a family bond with each other, the players bonded with coaches, and I just felt comfortable," he says. "The facilities were nice, the stadium was huge, and I might have a good opportunity to play early."
