Top DE Prospect Sets Final Visit

West End's Deantwan Whitehead discusses his visit to Tennessee over the weekend and the destination of his final official visit.

Birmingham, five-star defensive end Deantwan "Peanut" Whitehead talks of his plans for the final official visit weekend. "I am going to Alabama this weekend," said Deantwan Whitehead. "I am for sure going down there this weekend. I feel like I might as well go down there to check-out everything. My mom really wants to go down there as well."

"Everything is all good with Alabama. The in-home visit with coach Shula last week went really good. It should be a fun trip this weekend."

Whitehead was in Knoxville over the weekend for his official visit with Tennessee.

"It was alright," he said. "It was about the same as all the other visits except for the stadium was a lot bigger. Overall it was alright. There really isn't too much to say about it because I have been up there before."

"The meeting with coach [Phillip] Fulmer were alright. He called me in about four different times. I got along with all the players and the coaches. My host was Turk [McBride]. He was real cool."

The Volunteers had some ground to make up on the official visit for the nation's third-best defensive end, and they were successful.

"As of now, I would say Louisville, Alabama, Tennessee and Auburn are all even. I am going to have to narrow it down to one school within the next week. It's going to be very tough."

Whitehead will use several factors in his decision when arriving at his decision as he shared, "There are a whole plethora of things I will base my decision on. Academics, playing time, how well I fit into the defensive scheme and my relationship with the coaches will all be huge factors in my decision."

Whitehead is expecting visitors this week from three of his finalists.

"I know coach Fulmer is coming this week," he said. "I think he wants to come in on Thursday, but I will have to reschedule that visit. Coach [Tommy] Tuberville has already said he will come on Thursday. Coach [Bobby] Petrino has already made an in-home visit, but coach [Joe] Whitt Jr. and coach [Kevin] Wolthausen from Louisville plan to come sometime this week."

When asked his decision date Whitehead replied, "I will announce at my high school next Tuesday. I want to have the press conference at my school so some of the other players on our team can get recognition."

"We have two top-notch offensive linemen who will be seniors next year," Whitehead said of teammates at West End-Birmingham, (Ala.) "If they keep playing like they played this year they are going to be big time. Their names are Nathaniel Hood and Jeremiah Zing."
