Defensive Lineman Signs With Tigers

Zach Clayton has signed to play for the Tigers.

Opelika, Ala.--Local defensive tackle prospect Zach Clayton made it official, to the surprise of no one, that he would be an Auburn Tiger by signing his National Letter of Intent to play for Auburn on Wednesday.

The 6-3, 257-pound defender has the frame to put on plenty of weight and the athleticism and quickness off the ball that could turn him into a strong defensive tackle for the Tigers' down the road.

Clayton, who had offers from North Carolina, Oregon, UAB and TCU, but only took his visit to Auburn after committing to the Tigers in September, is also a nationally acclaimed thrower in both the shot put and discuss and had numerous offers for track scholarships.

Zach Clayton was a beast in the middle for Opelika High, which had one of the best defenses in Alabama this season.

Opelika High head coach Spence McCracken says that Tigers' are getting a good one in Clayton. "He is a very good pass rusher," he says. "He is going to be an outstanding player at Auburn. As far as having him as a football player, the more fundamentals he gets the better. I know that he is going to be outstanding in years to come."

The talented defender, who also played some fullback for McCracken's team, helped lead Opelika to the Alabama 6A semi-finals as a senior.
