Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.--In the first event of the spring season, the Auburn men's golf team finished in 10th place out of 15 at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate at the Sawgrass Country Club.

"We found ourselves in a hole after the first round and with these conditions it's tough to come back," said head coach Mike Griffin.

UCLA won the tournament on the par-72 6,985-yard course by shooting a three-day total of 896. Auburn, which shot a 926 tournament total, was led by true freshman Glenn Northcutt, who finished 11th overall with a 226. Senior Stuart Moore tied for 25th with a 230.

"I am extremely proud of the way Glenn continues to play as a freshman," Griffin said. "Now we need to move on and get ready for the John Burns in two weeks."

The John Burns Intercollegiate will be played at the Leileihua Golf Club in Honolulu, Hawaii from Feb. 22 through Feb. 24.
