Auburn Freshman Wins SEC Honor

Auburn, Ala.--After a spectacular collegiate debut last weekend, Auburn freshman Mike Bianucci has been named the Southeastern Conference Baseball Player of the Week.

The 6-1, 212-pounder form Fairfax, Va., missed the opening two series of the season with an ankle injury. However, he made up for lost time by going 8-12 in a three-game series vs. Hofstra.

On Friday evening, in his collegiate debut, he hit a pair of homers. The first was a two-run shot to the tie game. The second was a walk-off three-run homer in the 10th inning to rally the Tigers to a 9-8 victory.

In that game Bianucci drove home six of Auburn's nine runs and had four hits.

Bianucci came to Auburn from W.T. Woodson High where he hit .526 with 10 homers as a senior. A three-year starter, his high school career batting average was .508.

Auburn returns to action with a 4 p.m. home game at Plainsman Park on Tuesday vs. Troy.
