"Auburn offered me my first scholarship today," said Phelon Jones from McGill-Toolen High. "It was great. I've been waiting on that first scholarship offer, and I finally received it today."
"I really like Auburn a lot. They are one of my top schools. I am still going to wait to see what other offers I receive, but this is a good one. I am planning to visit Auburn for Junior Day on March 11."
"Louisville has been recruiting me very hard," Jones said. "I feel like they are really close to offering me a scholarship. I am going to keep an open mind about everything right now."
Jones was selected to play in the Alabama Junior All-Star game where he recorded four tackles and two pass deflections.
According to his dad, Jones set the national age group record as a sophomore in the triple jump with a jump of 49 feet, seven inches. His best long jump is 23 feet, nine inches and Jones won the state championship in Class 6A competition as a freshman and sophomore.
Jones will participate in the Scout.com All-American Combine in Tuscaloosa April 29.
