Tigers Win LSU Golf Tournament

Baton Rouge, La.--With junior Nicole Hage leading the way, Auburn's women's golf team opened its spring season in style with a victory at the 18-team LSU Cleveland Golf Classic.

The Tigers shot a three-round total of 873, closing with a 287 round on Sunday after shooting 297 on Friday and 289 on Saturday. That was good enough for a two-stroke victory over host LSU.

"We had a very strong tournament,"Auburn coach Kim Evans said. "Nicole Hage really played well and ended up finishing third, but we had great performances from everyone. This was a big team victory."

Hage finished at three-under par with rounds of 76-69-68 to lead the Tigers with the help of 13 birdies in the event. She finished two strokes off the individual lead set by LSU's Melissa Eaton.

Senior Maria Martinez shot one over par 217 to finish in sixth place. Jessica Lovell was 15th at 222, Margaret Shirley took 20th at eight over par and Abigale Schepperle finished at 224 for the Tigers.

Vanderbilt was third at 878 and was followed by Virginia at 894 and Alabama at 901.
