College Park, Ga.--Darrell Simmons is one of the top rising juniors in the Atlanta area and according to Coach Benny Crane of Banneker High School, he recently picked up an offer from the Tigers

Banneker High School athlete Darrell Simmons won't be a senior until 2007, but that isn't stopping him from getting attention from some of the nation's top programs.

The 6-foot-2, 195 pounder from the metro Atlanta area has already received an early offer from Auburn. He attended the Tigers' football scrimmage this past weekend.

"I liked everything, but this was my first visit to any school," Simmons said. "I didn't expect to start getting offers so soon, but I'm happy a school like Auburn wants me."

Simmons who also has interested in Miami, Virginia Tech, Alabama, Florida and Georgia says he may attend Auburn's skills camp this summer. "I'll probably go to a couple camps this summer to show them what I got. Since Auburn has already offered me, I think I might go to their camp."

Because he is also on the track team, Auburn may be Simmons' first and last chance for an unofficial visit this spring.

"I'm just going to work as hard as I can during track to get faster," he said. "I'm still trying to get better."

Simmons stats last year:

*49 tackles, 3 for loss, 1 sack

*40 rushing attempts for a 6.82 yards per carry average and 3 TDs

*4 catches for 33 yards

*6 of 12 passing on the season

Simmons will attend our Scout.com Combine coming up in Atlanta in the month of April. We'll keep you posted on this player...
