Tuesday Spring Football Practice Notes

Notes and quotes from Tuesday's practice are featured.

*Offensive coordinator Al Borges says he has been pleased with he has seen from senior wide receiver Courtney Taylor. "He has had a heck of spring," the coach says. Taylor caught a TD pass from Cox in the back of the end zone at Tuesday's practice in the 11 on 11 work.

*Borges notes that after a slow start this spring, he is seeing improvement from junior Prechae Rodriguez. "We are still waiting for everyone after (Taylor and Rodriguez) to make a push," he says. "Robert Dunn, at times, has really shown he has some skills. We are still waiting after those two receivers to see who are going to be the next guys."

*Borges says after grading video of the major scrimmage over the weekend, neither second stringer Blake Field or third stringer Calvin Booker moved on the depth chart. "Neither quarterback had a real good day the other day in terms of two and three," he says. "If I said this one is better than the next one it wouldn't be fair to make a change at this point. We probably won't make change until this thing (spring drills) is over, if at all.

"The first week I let Blake and Calvin take some reps with the ones," Borges adds. "Whenever you go with the ones, you have got better opportunities. There is a reason we are out there working with the twos on blitz because they don't understand it yet. There are lot of new offensive linemen in there, new tight ends and new running backs. This week I didn't want to do that (play the backup QBs with the first team) because I wanted to get caught up on this passing game stuff and the only way to do that is to have your starting quarterback in there...The next two days I am going to kind of play it by ear and see how it goes, but I would like at one point to get them behind the ones again so they can show what they are capable of."

*QB Brandon Cox and running back Brad Lester hooked up on a long pass play in Tuesday's 11 on 11 work. Lester, the redshirt sophomore, continues to have a productive spring after missing the 2005 spring drills due to injuries.

Jonathan Palmer (79) blocks against Quentin Groves in Tuesday's practice.

*Jonathan Palmer, who worked at right tackle and center in Saturday's scrimmage, saw some action at right guard on Tuesday as well as tackle.

*Former Tigers Bret Eddins, Stanley McClover and Kevin Hobbs were visitors to Tuesday's workout.

*Robert Dunn caught the ball well in the one-on-one drills vs. defensive backs on Tuesday.

*Offensive tackle Oscar Gonzalez showed improvement in Tuesday's practice compared to his play in Saturday's scrimmage.

*The practice schedule has been changed. The Tigers were going to have two sessions after A-Day, but the plan now calls for practices every day this week with Saturday's A-Day Game being the spring finale.

*Blake Field bounced back from a poor passing day at the scrimmage and threw the ball very well in the 11 on 11 drills.
