Thursday Football Practice News & Notes

News and notes from Thursday's Auburn football practice are featured.

*The Tigers scrimmaged on Thursday at the stadium. The first offense had a strong drive to start the session before the defense took over for the majority of the scrimmage. However, the offense came on strong late in the session and looked about as good as it has at any time this spring.

*Brandon Cox, Tre Smith and Carl Stewart all solid performances. Smith had a spectacular 58-yard touchdown play on a screen pass from Cox that changed the momentum over to the offensive side of the ball.

*Stewart was a bull running inside. He carried a significant portion of the defense on his back on one running play that set up his TD carry on the next play.

*The Tigers finished up under half of the lights at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The west side lights were not working due to the construction project.

*The Tigers threw a combined total of of 30 passes and there were 14 completions. No wideout had more than two catches. Walk-on Rodgeriqus Smith had two catches for 34 yards and Montez Billings had two catches for 18 yards.

*Tight end Gabe McKenzie had two catches for 23 yards.

*The offensive line did a much better job of protecting the QBs in the scrimmage than they did on Saturday. There were four sacks. Linebacker Patrick Trahan got two of them and recovered a fumble and deflected a pass that turned into a TD interception return by Kevin Sears.

*Defensive lineman Tez Doolittle was very active and was in on six tackles.
