Louisiana Lineman Is A-Day Visitor

This 2007 football prospect is attracting attention and scholarship offers from major programs.

West Monroe, La.--Will Blackwell, one of the top defensive tackle prospects from the South, was in Auburn this past weekend to check out the Tigers' spring football game.

Blackwell, 6-4 and 290 pounds, is from West Monroe High School. Last season as a junior he recorded 80 tackles and eight sacks.

"I am at my best playing the run," said Blackwell. "Luther (Davis) is a better pass rusher. I try and make the plays but I do it best against the run and I want to become a better pass rusher. I want to get faster, stronger and get that extra step."

Last season Blackwell mainly played defensive end while this season he will mainly play tackle.

According to Blackwell he has scholarship offers from LSU, Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Arkansas, Louisiana Tech, and Louisiana Monroe.

"LSU has brand new facilities and I love the coaching staff. LSU has so much potential and they have a great opportunity to win it all this season and in many seasons ahead.

"Auburn has great facilities too. There coaches are great, too. I was there for spring practice (Saturday). It was a great practice and they looked really good on both offense and defense.

"Ole Miss has brand new facilities too and I love Coach O. He played football for my grandfather. Ole Miss is a place that is so nice and I feel right at home.

"Texas, Tennessee, and Florida are schools that I like as well, but they have not offered me nor have I been to any of them. I hear so many good things about Texas and Florida writes a lot, just about every other day. I am hoping schools like this decide to offer me soon."

So at this time does Blackwell have a leader and a timetable?

"I actually have no favorites at all. I want to see what is out there because I have not been to too many places."

Blackwell said he will likely attend the Scout.com Combine in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
