Martinez Tests Herself Vs. Tour Golfers

Rancho Mirage, Calif.--Auburn senior Maria Martinez wrapped up her first Ladies Professional Golf Association tournament with a four-day total of 16-over-par 304 at the Kraft Nabisco Championship.

Martinez, who received an exemption from the LPGA into the pro event as an amateur based on her play in collegiate events, the U.S. Women's Amateur and U.S. Women's Open plus other tournaments, finished in a tie for 62nd place at the par 72, 6,569-yard Mission Hills Country Club.

Karrie Webb won the Nabisco event in a playoff vs. Lorena Ochoa after shooting rounds of 70, 68, 76 and 65. Martinez had rounds of 74, 73, 77 and 80 at the event that ended Sunday.

Martinez will next be in action April 14-16th at the SEC Women's Golf Championship in Nashville, Tenn. the Tigers are the defending champion.

Following her senior season for the Tigers, who are currently ranked fifth nationally, Martinez will try to earn an LPGA tour card.
