In-State Prospect Favors Tigers and Bulldogs

The link has a report on a 2007 football prospect from the Birmingham area.

Trussville, Ala.--Hewitt-Trussville High's Rico Sharpe is one of the top running backs in Alabama. He attended Auburn's spring football game and came away very impressed.

"Auburn's A-Day game was very intense," Sharpe said. "There was a lot of hitting. It was crazy. It gave me something to really look forward to on the field.

"The players were congratulating each other after making big plays, and they would help each other up after each play. It was a great experience to be there. The crowd was really great as well.

I spoke to coach (Terry) Price for a little bit. He told me to keep my grades up and to do well on the ACT. He told me to stay focused on my senior season and do everything I need to do to prepare myself for the next level."

Sharpe visited a couple of former Hewitt-Trussville players while on the Plains. "I stayed with Lee Guess and Brandon Cox when I was there," he said. "They were telling me a lot of different things about Auburn. They made Auburn sound like heaven.

"I really like Auburn a lot. I think it's a good school. It's good to know a few guys down there already as well."

Sharpe has been receiving interest from all across the Southeast, and he names his top two schools. "My two favorites are Georgia and Auburn," he said. "I like Tennessee, Texas and Miami as well."

When asked his thoughts of the Georgia Bulldogs Sharpe replied, "I basically love their campus. It's huge. I know people who go to school there, and they have told me it's a really good school. I like their football program and their playing style."

Sharpe will participate in the All-American Combine in Tuscaloosa April 29.
