Mountain Brook Lineman Attracting Attention

A report is featured on lineman William Vlachos.

Mountain Brook, Ala.--William Vlachos has received a scholarship offer from LSU and a grey-shirt offer from the University of Alabama. The big offensive lineman was eager to attend the Scout.com All-American combine in Tuscaloosa.

"I really enjoyed the combine," Vlachos said. "It was well organized, and I liked it a lot. I really liked the one-on-one competition. I got to go up against the best defensive linemen in the state.

"I really liked the guy who got us ready to run the 40-yard-dash [Scout.com's Don Cox]. He got us real pumped up. I liked him."

Vlachos measured 6-1, 302-pounds and ran a 5.28 40. Scout.com's runner-up for combine MVP was Hoover defensive lineman Josh Chapman. Vlachos recognized his talent as well.

"Josh impressed me a lot," he said. "He put a good swim move on me. He got the best of me two times in a row. Hoover is in our region. He is a real good player."

Several college coaches observed the performance of Vlachos during Saturday's combine, and the scholarship offer list should increase this spring.

"I think West Virginia is close to offering me," he said. "Coach Rick Trickett is coming here this week. Coach Terry Price from Auburn and a coach from Kentucky came by today.

"Georgia Tech came yesterday. Coach Mike Shula and coach Cheese [Charlie Harbison] from Alabama came last Thursday. Coaches from Memphis, Vanderbilt and Samford came by last Friday."

When asked to name favorites Vlachos replied, "Alabama and LSU are tied for the lead right now. I am open to any other school who offers me a scholarship."

Stay tuned to Scout.com for the latest recruiting news with William Vlachos."
