Martinez Wins All-America Status

Columbus, Ohio--Auburn University senior Maria Martinez has been named an All-American by the National Golf Coaches Association after leading her team to five tournament titles during the 2005-2006 season.

The 2006 SEC Player of the Year, Martinez was the individual SEC champion and led her team to back-to-back conference championships as a junior and senior.

Martinez, the only senior on the 2005-2006 Auburn team, finished a disappointing NCAA Championships on Friday tied for 38th individually. Her team, which was ranked fourth nationally coming into the tournament, finished in 12th place.

Junior Nicole Hage received honorable mention All-America notice for a second straight season after being a second team selection as a freshman.

Martinez, a two-time All-American, will leave Auburn with the school record for tournament victories with five.
