Dufner Gets Big Win On Nationwide Tour

Glenville, Ill.--Former Auburn All-SEC golfer Jason Dufner got the biggest win of his professional career on Sunday as his birdie on the 17th hole gave him a one-shot lead on the way to victory in the LaSalle Bank Open.

A tournament with the highest purse of the year on the Nationwide Tour, the LaSalle Bank Open is considered by many players to be a major championship on the Nationwide Tour. For Jason Dufner it might as well be.

Entering the tournament number 25 on the tour's money list, Dufner's win was worth $135,000 and moves him to number three on the list with $202,804 overall this season. That should all but ensure Dufner his second PGA Tour card next season.

The victory also gives Dufner an invitation into the Cialis Western Open in a few weeks. It will be the second huge event of the season for Dufner though as he will tee it up this week in the U.S. Open at famed Winged Foot.

"To get back to the PGA Tour is great, but just winning again is what means the most to me," Dufner said. "If you win this tournament then you have an excellent chance of reaching your ultimate goal of finishing inside the Top 20 at the end of the season."

Another former Auburn golfer playing professionally, Lee Williams, has qualified for the U.S. Open.
