Lebo Upbeat About SEC-Big East Showdown

Auburn, Ala.--Auburn and the 11 other Southeastern Conference men's basketball teams will compete in the SEC-Big East Showdown, the Southeastern Conference announced on Tuesday. No matchups have been set yet.

The two conferences agreed to a three-year deal to play four games a year matching teams from the SEC vs. the Big East in contests that will be televised on ESPN and ESPN2.

Each SEC team will play one game in the series. The showdown will feature two neutral sites that will be the host arena for two games each year.

SEC coaches, at their annual meeting in Destin, Fla., in May, discussed ways to improve the exposure of SEC basketball.

"It is great for the SEC and the Big East to agree to this challenge," Auburn coach Jeff Lebo said. "It is outstanding for both leagues, and it is important to have high level basketball exposure during the month of December."

The dates for the games that will be played on Wednesday and Thursday of each year are Dec. 5-6, 2007, Dec. 10-11, 2008 and Dec. 9-10 2009.
