Scenes from Auburn's summer football workouts are featured:

Jonathan Palmer, who started at center vs. Alabama and at guard vs. Ball State last season, hopes to win a starting spot at right tackle as a redshirt senior.

Oscar Gonzalez redshirted last fall as a freshman. The offensive lineman from Hialeah, Fla., will head into the 2006 season as the second team left tackle behind junior King Dunlap. Marcus McNeill started at that position last fall.

Fifth-year senior Lee Guess is hoping for a breakout season at wide receiver. Guess is coming off of a good performance in the spring.

Josh Thompson, a junior noseguard, has been one of the leaders in the summer workouts. He is projected to break into the starting lineup this fall at the position where Tommy Jackson was a starter the past two seasons.

Sophomore Brad Lester is expected to be the number two tailback this fall behind senior Kenny Irons. Lester notes that he has been working hard in the offseason to add size and strength and says he is up to 196 pounds.

Quentin Groves is expected to be a full-time starter at defensive end as a junior after a good performance in the spring.

Ben Tate, who enrolled at Auburn in January, is expected to compete for playing time at tailback this season.

Tez Doolittle, who will be a junior this season, works out on the AU campus. The former Opelika High standout is coming off his best spring and is expected to see significant playing time at tackle, noseguard or both positions.

Will Herring is shown in pass coverage, something he has done a lot of the past three seasons as a starting free safety. However, this year he is expected to be AU's starter at strongside linebacker after experimenting at that position and playing well in spring drills.

Jonathan Wilhite intercepts a pass and races down the sideline in a summer workout with the other defensive backs and linebackers along with the receivers, running backs, tight ends and quarterbacks. Wilhite, a cornerback, is a returning starter and he heads into the season first team on the depth chart for new secondary coach and defensive coordinator Will Muschamp.
