"I started kind of rusty in the one-on-one drills, but I picked up the intensity and kicked butt," he says about his performance.
Dumphord also plays every position on the defensive line for small Paris High, but projects as an offensive tackle at the collegiate level. He is being recruited at Auburn by defensive tackle coach Don Dunn, who grew up in Louisville, Ky.
"I think we're getting pretty close as the time goes on," Dumphord says about his relationship with Dunn. "We're starting to get to know each other better and he's starting to get to know what kind of player I am. I'm starting to get to know what kind of coach he is. And also, Coach Nall (Hugh) is my offensive coach and I'm starting to develop a better relationship with him, too.
"I can call him (Dunn) any time I want to," he adds. "I get letters from Auburn--two or three letters every day, hand-written letters."
Auburn is one of just four schools to offer the big lineman.
"Spring break, I was on the beach in Pensacola and Coach Dunn called me and told me he was offering me," Dumphord days. Louisville, Cincinnati and Kentucky have also extended a scholarship offer. "I've been here before," he adds. "It's pretty nice and I wouldn't mind coming here."
He also visited Auburn for the spring game and a game last season, but adds he is still a long way from making any sort of decision. "I'm also hearing from Tennessee, Ohio State, Purdue, Georgia, Miami, Florida and Florida State. Florida and Tennessee are probably the next two to offer."
Dumphord also plays baseball and basketball in high school, and expects his senior football season to be a special one. "We're going to have a good team this year. We're going to have 15 seniors coming back so we'll have a good team."
