Change Made In Tigers-Tech Football Series

Auburn, Ala.--Auburn announced on Tuesday that the Tigers will play a home-and-home football series vs. Georgia Tech in 2003 and 2005, but there will not be a game at the Georgia Dome as originally planned.

Auburn will face the Yellow Jackets in football for the first time since 1987 when the Tigers visit what will be a newly renovated Grant Field that will hold around 56,000 fans. Phase one of the renovation is currently underway and contractors are racing the clock to have that work done in time for the 2002 season. Phase two should be ready for the 2003 season and will include skyboxes at the nation's oldest Division I on-campus stadium.

The Tigers and Yellow Jackets were originally scheduled to play a three-game series with the first one at the Georgia Dome in 2003 with a 50-50 split in tickets. The teams were to meet again at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Grant Field on the Tech campus in 2004 with the third game at Jordan-Hare Stadium in 2005. The 2005 contest will be played as originally scheduled.

The Tigers lead their all-time series with Georgia Tech 47-39-4. The series started in 1892 and ended in 1987 with a 20-10 Auburn victory when Tech decided to drop the series. The Georgia Tech series was a favorite of Auburn fans and featured one of the most colorful traditions in AU history, the annual Wreck Tech Pajama Parade through campus and downtown on the Wednesday before the game.
