Irons had an impressive 9.1-yard average per carry as he dashed for 183 yards on 20 rushing attempts. He also caught three passes for 40 yards, giving him 223 all-purpose yards.
The 5-11, 203-pound senior scampered 42 yards on Auburn's first play from scrimmage, which set up a John Vaughn field goal to give Auburn an early 3-0 advantage. On the first snap of the second half he raced another 58 yards for a touchdown.
"It was all about running physical," Irons said. "I started fast and ended strong. Coach (Al) Borges always stresses starting well and finishing strong. That's important to me."
Irons won the award last season after wins against Arkansas and Georgia. Saturday's game marked his ninth 100-yard rushing performance since transferring to Auburn and seventh in the last eight games. He has 1,441 yards rushing in his last 11 games.
