Smith's Plays Not Enough for Tigers

Auburn wide receiver Rodgeriqus Smith discusses his team's loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Auburn, Ala.--On a day when there were too few highlights for the Auburn offense, sophomore wide receiver Rodgeriqus Smith was one of the bright spots.

The 6-2, 184 sophomore wide receiver scored Auburn's only touchdown on a 24-yard pass from Brandon Cox. He caught four passes and led the team in receiving yards with 64.

Smith was able to consistently get open in the first half, but only had three balls thrown his way. He managed to catch all of them for 40 yards before intermission.

"I was getting open a lot," he says. "We were trying to establish the ground game. It didn't seem like it, but I was still getting open in the second half, but we didn't have the ball a lot."

Rodgeriqus Smith celebrates his touchdown catch.

No. 2 ranked Auburn, which fell to 3-1 in the SEC and 5-1 overall, lost to an Arkansas team that pulled off its first victory over such a highly ranked team since beating No. 1 Texas 42-11 in 1981.

"Football season is a long one," Smith says. "We can't dwell too much on this loss. We have to put it behind us and prepare for Florida and move on.

"I was definitely surprised that we lost, but this is the SEC," he adds. "You have to come in prepared to play a physical game every week. They played a physical game and beat us. We played hard, but we could have played harder. Things were going there way today."
