Auburn, Ala.--John Vaughn got a mulligan on his first missed field goal of the night and made good on his second opportunity as he helped Auburn knock off No. 2 Florida on Saturday night at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

The senior missed a 45-yard field goal with 3:16 left to play and his team holding just a one-point victory against the Gators.

With 32 seconds left and the Tigers still leading 18-17, Vaughn's do-over, this time from 39 yards out, was good and gave the Tigers a 21-17 edge. AU added a defensive touchdown on the final play of the game to make the final margin 27-17.

John Vaughn and holder Matthew Motley are shown on the final field goal.

"The first one I hit it good, but it didn't go in," said Vaughn, who was 3-3 on his field goals prior to his fourth quarter miss. "We still had the lead and I wanted to give us a little cushion. For second one I just went out there and tried to hit it solid and it went in."

Vaughn notes the victory over the Gators, coming on the heels of a disappointing SEC loss to Arkansas last week, was huge for the Tigers.

"This game means everything to us," the senior says. "Two losses in the SEC would have really hurt us. We really want to get to Atlanta. These guys on our team fought so hard to win this game.

"You just have to tip your hat to Florida," Vaughn adds. "They played hard, too, and they have a great team. We just tried to go out and execute on offense and defense and we tried to do a good job on special teams."

Counting a safety and a blocked punt, the special teams came through nicely for the Tigers scoring 22 of Auburn's 27 points.
