AU Coach Semi-finalist for National Award

Auburn, Ala.--Tommy Tuberville has been named one of 15 semi-finalists for the George Munger College Coach of the Year award presented by the Maxwell Football Club.

The club's president, Ron Jaworski, made the announcement on Wednesday and in December the winner will be announced. The award will be presented March 2nd in Atlantic City, N.J.

Tuberville's Tigers are 7-1 going into Saturday's game at Ole Miss and are ranked seventh in both major polls this week. The Tigers are fifth in this week's BSC standings.

The Tigers and Rebels will kick off shortly after 11:30 a.m. in an SEC game that will be televised regionally by LFS. Auburn is 4-1 in the conference and Ole Miss is 1-4. The Tigers defeated Tulane last week while Ole Miss is trying to bounce back from back to back losses to Alabama and Arkansas.

"Offensively last week was our best outing in a while," Tuberville says. "Brandon Cox is much improved in the way of being physically ready to play. He has really been struggling for five or six weeks. I have to give it to him, he has played hurt, but he has a smile on his face at practice now. It doesn't look like he has a case of tape on his legs now when he comes out. It is good to see him back to normal.

"Hopefully, this will all add up to us having an opportunity to play to our potential, which we haven't done this year. It would be a good time to start, going on the road, playing our second-to-last road game, but it is an SEC game."
