SEC Honors Auburn's Grubbs for Second Time

Birmingham, Ala.--Offensive guard Ben Grubbs is having his best season and on Monday the Southeastern Conference recognized the Auburn senior by naming him Southeastern Conference Player of the Week.

Grubbs graded 99 percent in Auburn's 27-0 victory over Arkansas State and led the Tigers in pancake blocks with five. He added five cockroach blocks and four rodeo blocks.

Quarterback Brandon Cox was not sacked in the game as the Tiger offensive line extended its streak to 14 consecutive quarters without allowing a sack.

"He's the kind of kid you want in your program," Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville says. "He's the kind of kid you want representing your family, your school or your team."

Ben Grubbs has been a key player throughout the season for the 9-1 Tigers who play the Georgia Bulldogs this week.

Grubbs, a 6-3, 314-pounder from Eclectic, has started 35 consecutive games for the Tigers since moving to offensive guard. He came to Auburn as a defensive player. He moved to tight end for a season and has developed into an All-SEC candidate and NFL prospect on the offensive line.

Auburn offensive line coach Hugh Nall is high on the senior. "To me, Ben had offensive lineman written all over him a long time ago," Nall says. "He can play a lot of football after he leaves Auburn, in my opinion."

Grubbs was also named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week for his performance in Auburn's victory over LSU this season.

LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell is the SEC Offensive Player of the Week, Mississippi State linebacker Quinton Culberson is the top defensive player, Anthony Brown of Arkansas is the Special Teams Player of the Week, Jarvis Moss of Florida is the top defensive lineman and Kentucky cornerback Trevard Lindley is the special teams player of the week.

Grubbs has been honored twice this season as lineman of the week. Other Tigers winning player of the week honors this year include Aairon Savage, Kenny Irons, Kody Bliss, Matt Clark, Timmy Duckworth, Quentin Groves and King Dunlap.
