Receiver Plans Visit to Auburn

An Auburn University football recruiting report is featured.

Auburn, Ala.--When Ralph Spry Jr. makes his first official recruiting visit this weekend he will be close enough to run to the Auburn University campus if he chooses to arrive on his fleet feet that helped him put up big numbers as a high school senior.

The senior wide receiver from Auburn High School says he plans to head across town on Friday to check out Coach Tommy Tuberville's Tigers.

"Coach Borges (offensive coordinator Al Borges) is recruiting me for Auburn and he called me and invited me in for a visit," Spry says. "He told me he would call me back and tell me exactly what time to be there and everything."

Spry, who says he has one scholarship offer so far from Alabama State, notes that he is hearing from Southern Miss, Troy, North Alabama, West Alabama and UAB. Also, South Carolina has contacted his coaches to get video of Spry's senior season.

That senior season was an impressive one. The 5-11, 171-pounder caught 49 passes for 1,027 yards with 15 receiving touchdowns. He added another TD on an 87-yard end around and scored when he picked up a fumble on a kickoff return.

Spry isn't competing on a winter sports team at AHS, but plans to participate in the sport his father, Ralph Spry Sr., coaches at Auburn University. "I am going to run outdoor track, but right now I am just doing my school work and stuff," he says. "I am going to do the long jump, the triple jump, the 4x100 and maybe one other event."
