Signing Day Tidbits: Young Man on a Mission

There is no doubt what football means to this Auburn University signee.

LaFayette, La.--After reaching the state championship game and coming up short as a junior, Auburn signee Wilfred Journet says he was on a mission as a senior to win the big prize for himself and his teammates at Acadiana High School.

The 6-2, 242-pound weakside defensive end led the defensive charge as his team team made a strong run in the state playoffs and finished as the 5A state champions.

"Winning the state championship is the best thing that ever happened to me," says Journet, who was named the Louisiana 5A Defensive Player of the Year after making 145 tackles with 40 for lost yardage with 24 sacks.

"A lot of people don't get a chance to play in back-to-back championship games so that is special," he says. "We worked hard for it and me and my team deserved the championship."

Journet plans to attend junior college at Copiah-Lincoln in Mississippi and then join the Tigers in time for the 2009 season. He will be joined on that team by former Auburn signee, Raven Gray, a defensive end from Enterprise High who hopes to join the AU team in 2008. "Raven and I talked about playing defensive end next season at Co-Linn," Journet says. "Maybe we can spark something over there in Mississippi."
