Tiger Ace Questionable for Arkansas Series

Auburn will have a different pitching rotation for the SEC series vs. Arkansas.

Auburn, Ala.--An injury to Auburn's top starting pitcher, Paul Burnside, will cause a change in the rotation for AU's weekend baseball series vs. seventh-ranked Arkansas.

On Friday night the Tigers will go with lefty Evan Crawford in Burnside's spot. The sophomore has a 4-3 record with a 5.28 earned run average, but was effective in relief on Sunday vs. Alabama.

Evan Crawford has a chance to regain a regular spot in the starting rotation this weekend if he has a good outing vs. the Razorbacks.

Burnside is trying to recover from a strained bicep and may be able to pitch on Sunday. He is 7-1 this season with a 3.06 earned run average.

Arkansas will go with junior lefty Nick Schmidt on Friday. He is 8-1 with a 2.56 earned run average.

On Saturday the Tigers will send freshman right-handed pitcher Taylor Thompson to the mound to face junior right-hander Duke Welker, who is 5-2 with a 2.83 earned run average. Thompson is 4-1 with a 4.34 ERA.

Auburn's Sunday started is still to be determined. Coach Tom Slater hopes that Burnside will be ready to pitch against junior right-hander Jess Todd, who his 5-2 with a 3.99 earned run average.

Auburn will bring a 27-17 record into the series with a 6-12 league mark. Arkansas is the league's hottest team with a 33-11 overall mark. The Razorbacks are 13-5 in the SEC.
