Thomas notes that his trip to Auburn last Thursday was a good one. "I met with pretty much everyone who had anything to do with football and athletics," he says. "I talked to Coach (Tommy) Tuberville, Coach (Will) Muschamp and Coach (James) Willis, who is the linebacker coach.
"I toured the facilities--the locker room, the weight room and all of that. It was a really good environment. I met with the assistant dean of the business college, Gary Waters, and he is a real nice guy."
A teammate of 2007 Auburn signee Bailey Woods at Walton High last season, like Woods he has an early offer from the Tigers.
"Auburn is looking at me as playing an outside linebacker type, or a buck end as they call it," Thomas says. "They said I could play all three of the linebacker positions as well."
Thomas, who played tight end and defensive end last season, made 46 solo tackles with 20 sacks as a junior. He added six catches for 129 yards at tight end.
Those numbers on a six-foot-four, 210-pound frame with strong grades, good quickness and the potential to get much larger have lots of colleges very interested. "I have 16 or 17 offers," he says.
"I am looking for an overall good college environment," he says. "I want to see if the college is a place where I would get along with the players and coaches. I want to go to a place where I am sure I will get playing time. I don't want to sit on the bench for all four years."
Thomas says he plans to visit Georgia Tech and Georgia this week and adds, "I am hoping to get down to LSU soon."
He is also working on getting ready for the 2007 season. "I am focusing on gaining weight," he says. "I am just hoping I can contribute to my team this year and I hope we win the championship."
