Upshaw Takes Trip To Auburn

Eufaula defensive end Courtney Upshaw visited Auburn over the weekend. Was it enough to rethink his recent commitment?

Eufaula, Ala.—Early this week Eufaula standout defensive end Courtney Upshaw surprised everyone with his commitment to Alabama, choosing the Crimson Tide over Auburn and others such as Georgia, Oklahoma and Miami. Just days after his commitment though, Upshaw was on the Auburn campus as the first of two senior camps took place on the Plains.

Deciding he needed to look around to make sure of his choice, Upshaw was on hand to watch over 400 top prospects on display at the camp. While on the campus for the unofficial visit, he got the chance to speak with the Auburn coaches and take another look around at the Tigers' program. He says he was impressed by everything he saw and heard over the two days.

"It was pretty nice," Upshaw says. "I toured the facilities even though I had already toured them before. I checked out the academic hall. I really liked it. I got a chance to talk to all the coaches."

Upshaw is a physical player that could wind up at defensive end or outside linebacker on the next level.

Spending some time with James Willis (recruits Eufaula for Auburn) and defensive coordinator Will Muschamp while in town, Upshaw says he felt comfortable with everything involved and it has him thinking he may have made his decision before he fully made up his mind.

"I'm just keeping my options open," Upshaw says. "It could change. I like Auburn. Auburn is definitely going to stick around."

Upshaw will be attending the July 14 Senior Mini-Camp in Auburn and says he's looking forward to showing his skills for the Auburn coaches. Until then he says he'll be weighing the pros and cons of both Auburn and Alabama as he tries to make a final choice as soon as possible.
