Fort Meade, Fla.--An impressive group of running back prospects was on hand for Saturday's one-day camp on the Auburn campus and one of the best was speedster Onterio McCalebb. Rated a three-star prospect by Scout.com, McCalebb showed speed, quickness and versatility and will be a player to watch as the recruiting season unfolds.
With offers from schools all over the South, McCalebb says he wanted to get a closer look at the Auburn program and he left impressed by what he saw.
"The camp went good," McCalebb tells Inside The Auburn Tigers. "I started out a little lazy at first but I picked the pace up. Coach (Eddie Gran) told me to pick the pace up so I had to. When we went to one-on-one drills I had to show coach I could do something so I could earn my spot on the field.
"I really liked it," he adds about his impressions of Auburn. "I really liked it. I liked the whole thing. I like the facilities. I like everything."
McCalebb showed his good hands by making several nice catches during the camp.
At the moment McCalebb says he has offers from Auburn, Rutgers, West Virginia, Georgia, Florida State, Kentucky, Ole Miss, South Florida and several more schools. While he has plenty to choose from, he says he has a top two at the moment with what some may consider a surprise as his leader.
"Auburn is number two right now," McCalebb says. "Rutgers is my top school right now."
McCalebb is coming off one of the most impressive seasons by any back in Florida last year after he rushed for 1,421 yards and 17 touchdowns and added 23 catches for 448 yards and six more scores. He also added five punt returns for 95 yards and a touchdown and 13 kickoff returns for 367 yards (28.2 avg.) with another score.
Having already visited several of his favorites, McCalebb says he plans to visit Clemson before he turns his attention to his senior season.
