Lorenzo Ferguson will be competing with freshmen Zac Etheridge and Michael McNeil for playing time at safety during preseason drills in August. Ferguson is trying to bounce back from shoulder surgery.

Robert Dunn jumps high into the air, but not high enough as Etheridge (not pictured) gets the interception off the tip.

Dunn ignores gravity to come down with another ball thrown over his head.

Jerraud Powers and Montez Billings, both impressive during voluntary workouts, wait their turn in drills.

Powers go high in the air for a present on his birthday.

Tight end Brent Slusher was the only true freshman in the 2007 signing class to go through spring drills.

Bo Harris looks to take over at strongside linebacker where Patrick Trahan was ruled ineligible this season.

Quindarius Carr gets some work getting off the line against veteran corner Jonathan Wilhite.

After drills were over with at Thursday's practice, true freshman Kodi Burns and redshirt freshman Steven Ensminger (not pictured) practiced throwing the ball 65 yards to Brandon Cox.

Cox decided to show the freshmen how it's done. Standing three yards deep in the end zone, Burns didn't have to move a single step as Cox hit him right on the numbers from the 35-yard line, 68 yards away in street clothes.
