Wednesday Football Practice Notes

Auburn University football practice notes are featured.

*It was watermelon night to celebrate the end of two-a-day practices, but players at several positions had to wait a while to eat after Tommy Tuberville signalled the end of practice.

Hugh Nall had his offensive linemen push the blocking sled for about a half a mile, leaving it on the outskirts of Swinton National Forest about 30 minutes after practice ended.

Don Dunn and Terry Price kept the defensive linemen out even longer, about 45 minutes after the end of practice that ended with the entire team running wind sprints when the kickers didn't meet the three out of four challenge to avoid the extra running.

*Tommy Trott had a very impressive catch in the 11 on 11 work that include a four-minute drill and a two-minute offense drill.

*Blake Field got the snaps with the second team and had a good night passing the football. Kodi Burns played with the third team.

The Tigers worked out in shorts for the morning practice at the football complex. King Dunlap (77), the senior left tackle, always stands out a crowd.

*With Leon Hart out of action, Byron Isom got work at guard with the first offense.

*Lee Ziemba worked with the first offense at right tackle in the evening practice. Antwoin Daniels, who has worked some as the first team right tackle, lined up at guard at the Wednesday night practice while working with the first team at right tackle in the morning.

The Tigers moved their morning practice to the football complex for a light workout that featured drills on the kicking game.

*Wes Byrum and Ross Gornall handled the kickoff duties in the morning practice. Byrum's first kick sailed one-yard into the end zone, the second was to the end zone and the third was caught at the one. Gornall's kicks were to the seven, five and 12 yard lines.

*With Tristan Davis out after foot surgery, Mario Fannin and Patrick Lee are currently the frontrunners to be the kickoff returns.

*James Swinton is the fastest player on the team this year. The junior wide receiver says he believes that cornerback Patrick Lee is the second fastest player on the team.
