Time to Man Up, AU Tight End Says

Auburn sophomore Gabe McKenzie discusses Auburn's loss to the South Florida Bulls.

Auburn, Ala.--On a night in which the offensive highlights were few and far between for the Auburn Tigers, tight end Gabe McKenzie's play appeared to be a bright spot for AU in its 26-23 overtime loss to South Florida.

McKenzie caught three passes for 27 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers. However, he was obviously stressed about his team's loss to the Bulls.

"Basically, we have to find people who can man up," the sophomore says. "We have the offense to be successful. We have the plays, we have people to do it. We just have to get people to do it.

"We have to keep the defenders off our quarterback and we need to rush the ball," McKenzie adds. "We are a running team. The passing game will be there if the rushing game is there.

"This is a big loss at home," McKenzie says. "The South Florida defense was good and our offense wasn't on. We went three and out (in overtime) and they put it in the end zone. We just got to man up and get ready for the next game. I really wanted to win this game."

The Tigers begin SEC play in game three vs. Mississippi State. "This team will bounce back," McKenzie predicts. "Last year we bounced back from our loss."
