Road Victory an Historic Win for Auburn

Auburn's football win in The Swamp was not an ordinary victory.

Gainesville, Fla.--Auburn's dramatic 20-17 football victory vs. the fourth-ranked Florida Gators on Saturday night was a win of historical proportions.

For the first time an unranked Auburn team took a road win over an AP top five ranked team. The Tigers were 0-8 all-time in those type of matchups.

Going into the game at Florida Field, the Tigers were 2-21 all-time vs. top five ranked teams in road games and neutral sites with the last such victory a 10-6 decision in 1972 in Birmingham's Legion Field where the Tigers defeated Tennessee.

The first one happened three decades earlier when the 1942 Tigers were 27-13 victors over a number one ranked Georgia team. That game was played at Memorial Stadium in Columbus, Ga.

The Tigers are now 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the SEC as they return for an 11:30 a.m. home game against the Vanderbilt Commodores, who are 3-1 following a 30-7 victory on Saturday night vs. Eastern Michigan.
