Thompson Earns SEC Award

Auburn, Ala.--Auburn defensive tackle Josh Thompson has been named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week following his 12-tackle performance in the 17-10 Iron Bowl victory.

Thompson and the Auburn defense held the Crimson Tide to its lowest point total of the season (10) and fewest yards gained (225) since the 2005 Iron Bowl in which the Tide had just 188 yards.

"Josh played a terrific game and I'm proud of him to go out like this in his final home game as a senior," said defensive tackles coach Don Dunn.

Head coach Tommy Tuberville singled out Thompson at his press conference following the victory over Alabama.

"Josh Thompson comes in and he gave a good speech (Friday) night to the team," Tuberville said. "We let all the seniors get up and say a few words for the last home game of the season. Josh gets up and was very serious how deep Auburn and how much Auburn means to him. Being a guy who is not very tall that plays on the defensive line who really doesn't look like a big-time college football player, but to play the way he did tonight.

"He was all over the field making his plays," Tuberville continued. "He was an instrumental part of winning this game tonight. He is normally not out there a lot, but tonight he was and probably led the team in tackles just looking at it. He was just unbelievable."

Thompson is the eighth Auburn player to be recognized by the Southeastern Conference this year.
