Tigers Headed to Chick-fil-A Bowl

A football report on Auburn's bowl destination is featured.

Auburn, Ala.--The Auburn Tigers will make their eighth straight football postseason appearance with a trip to Atlanta for a New Year Eve's contest at the Chick-fil-A Bowl.

An official announcement will be made on Sunday evening, according to Auburn and SEC officials, who told Inside the Auburn Tigers that there is a good chance Auburn's opponent will be the Clemson Tigers of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The game will kick off at 6:30 p.m. CST from the Georgia Dome. Auburn's last appearance there was for the 2004 SEC Championship Game as the Tigers defeated Tennessee 38-28.

Auburn's last bowl game appearance in Atlanta was in 2001. The Tigers fell 16-10 in that contest against North Carolina.

Last year the Tigers defeated Nebraska 17-14 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Tex.

The game will be the 45th contest matching Auburn and Clemson. Auburn holds a 32-11-2 lead in the series. AU had also been under consideration for an invitation to the Outback Bowl in Tampa to face the Wisconsin Badgers.

Coach Tommy Bowden

Clemson, which is coached by former Auburn assistant Tommy Bowden, is 9-3 this season following a 23-21 win over South Carolina. Auburn is 8-4 following a 17-10 victory over Alabama to close the regular season.
