Six Tigers Make Coaches Freshman All-SEC Team

Auburn leads the Coaches All-SEC Freshman Team with six selections.

Auburn, Ala.--An Auburn football team that relied heavily on freshmen placed six players on the Coaches All-Southeastern Conference Freshman Team that was announced on Thursday. No other team had more than four selections.

Three Tiger starting offensive linemen made the squad. That group includes Lee Ziemba, who started all 12 regular season games at right tackle, along with left tackle Ryan Pugh and right guard Chaz Ramsey.

Ryan Pugh, a standout at Hoover High last season, played a key role for the Tigers this season.

Punter Ryan Shoemaker, safety Zac Etheridge and reserve defensive end Antoine Carter were all selected to the all-league squad from Coach Tommy Tuberville's Tigers, who will play Clemson in the Chick-fil-A Bowl on New Year's Eve.

Ziemba earned starting status in preseason. The high school All-American from Rogers, Ark., was named a first team Scout.com Freshman All-American, the same honor he has received from College Football News.

Ramsey, another true freshman, started nine games for the Tigers while Pugh, who also is a reserve center behind Jason Bosley, started six games as a true freshman. Both received honorable mention All-America status from Scout.com.

Zac Etheridge (4) followed a strong preseason with a strong performance this fall.

Etheridge, a redshirt freshman from Charles Henderson High in Troy, started 11 games and has 57 tackles, which is the third highest total on the team. He forced two fumbles and deflected five passes. He has also been named to the College Football News third team freshman All-America squad.

Carter, a true freshman from Dillard High in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., who played in all 12 games, has made 14 tackles, including four for lost yardage with 1 1/2 sacks.

Antoine Carter showed his talents as a pass rusher this season.

Shoemaker, a redshirt freshman from Birmingham, is ranked 16th nationally in punting at 43.2 yards. The Tigers are third nationally in net punting at 39.3 yards. Shoemaker is a a second team College Football News Freshman All-American.

Other members of the offensive team include TE D.J. Williams of Arkansas, OL Trinton Sturdivant of Georgia, OL Clint Boling of Georgia, OL Maurkice Pouncey Florida, WR Terrance Toliver of LSU, WR          Denarius Moore of Tennessee, QB Wesley Carroll of Mississippi State, RB Knowshon Moreno of Georgia and RB Terry Grant of Alabama, a team that closed its regular season with a sixth straight loss in its Iron Bowl rivalry with Auburn.

Other picks include DL Ladi Ajiboye of South Carolina, DL Damario Ambrose of Arkansas, LB Rolando McClain of Alabama, LB Freddy Burton of Arkansas, LB Cliff Matthews of South Carolina, LB A.J. Jones of Florida, DB Eric Berry of Tennessee, DB         Joe Haden of Florida, DB Major Wright of Florida, DB         Kareem Jackson of Alabama and DB Chad Jones of LSU.

Daniel Lincoln of Tennessee and Alex Tejada of Tennessee tied for the kicker honors and Chad Jones of LSU is the return specialist.
