Lebo's Tigers Return to Action on Saturday

After a week off, the Auburn men's basketball team will return to action with a home game vs. the Towson Tigers.

Auburn, Ala.--After a week off for a Christmas holiday break, Coach Jeff Lebo's Auburn Tigers will look for a fourth straight basketball victory as they take on Towson on Saturday at Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum.

Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. for just the second ever meeting between the two sets of Tigers. Auburn defeated Towson State 87-63 on Dec. 1, 1980 in the first meeting.

"Towson was a team that last year was a pretty good basketball team," Lebo says. "The lost a couple of good players. They have a transfer in Junior Hairston from The College of Charleston who is a difference-maker for them. He can score, rebound and can run. He is long and athletic."

Hairston, a 6-8, 205 junior forward, is averaging a double-double. He leads the Tigers in scoring at 13.2 points per contest and rebounds at 12.7.

Rodney Spruill, a 6-4, 215 sophomore forward, is averaging 12.3 points and 5.0 rebounds for Towson, which brings a 4-6 record into the contest vs. a 7-2 Auburn team.

Towson, which is coached by Pat Kennedy, comes into the game after playing into overtime in its last two outings. The Tigers, who play in the Colonial Athletic Conference and are located in Towson, Maryland, fell 79-69 to LaFayette on Dec. 19th and defeated Niagara 75-72.

"They have lost a lot of close games," says Lebo, who adds, "They have been playing pretty tough with people and we have our work cut out for us."
