"First, I want to thank Coach Tuberville for giving me the opportunity to coach at a special place like Auburn," Muschamp said in a statement. "He was a great coach to work for and the I had a chance to work with an outstanding staff. I want to thank the players for the effort they gave over the last two seasons.
"Auburn has a great fan base and great support for its football program," Muschamp added. "It's been a tough day and a tough decision. However, I feel that this is a decision that's best for my family."
Tuberville had this comment on Friday. "Will did a great job for us during his two years at Auburn," Tuberville said. "He has a great work ethic and is a very knowledgeable coach that has been successful at every stop of his career. We wish him the very best in his new endeavors."
Tuberville said he hopes to have a replacement on board for Muschamp very quickly.
Commenting on his move to Texas, Tuberville said, "I've admired the job Coach Brown has done for a long time and followed his program at Texas closely," Muschamp said. "The way he handles everything and the way he and his players represent the Longhorns on and off the field is very impressive. I've been fortunate to have worked with some great head coaches and I'm really looking forward to working with Coach Brown. He's a tremendous coach who has been as successful as anyone for a long time, won a National Championship and runs a great football program. Working with him is a great opportunity for me and my family.
"Austin is a great place and I was really impressed by the university during my visit," Muschamp added. "I had a chance to talk to DeLoss Dodds and Bill Powers and you can see they have everyone pulling together and in the same direction. They're all on the same page and are driven to be the best and to do things right. That really excited me."
