Louisiana Lineman To Visit Auburn

Defensive tackle Freddie Smooth is taking an official visit to Auburn this weekend.

Baton Rouge, La.--Auburn is bringing in a large group of prospects this weekend on official visits, most of which are high-profile players or already committed. However, one of the visitors is a player who hasn't gotten much publicity--defensive tackle Freddie Smooth from Desire Street Academy in Baton Rouge, La.

At 6-5, 300 pounds, Smooth is being recruited to Auburn by Greg Knox as a defensive tackle.

"He plays D-tackle and O-tackle," says high school coach Mickey Joseph, who is still remembered for his playing career as a quarterback at Nebraska from 1988-1991. "He's a big, explosive kid and plays good against the run and aggressive against the pass. I think his best football is ahead of him. He's only been playing football for three years."

Despite being not ranked in the Scout.com recruiting rankings, Smooth has an impressive list for his official visits. He traveled to Norman, Okla., on Nov. 3 and has three visits remaining after the Auburn visit.

"He's going to have LSU and he's going to have North Carolina and Southern Miss," Joseph states.

The Sooners beat Texas A&M 42-14 the weekend of his official to Oklahoma.

"It was fun," Smooth says. Of Auburn, he adds, "They're up there. I've only got two that I really like--Auburn and OU. (This weekend) I'll be looking at academics, coaches and a nice environment."

Smooth and his uncle are expecting to arrive in Auburn on Friday evening.

As a senior he was named Class A All-State on defense with 70 tackles and 4 1/2 sacks.
