Auburn In Top Two For Athletic Defender

A report on one of Auburn's weekend visitors is featured.

Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.--One of Florida's top defenders for the 2008 class took an official visit to Auburn over the weekend and says the Tigers are now very high on his list. Athletic Christian Thompson from St. Thomas Aquinas says that the Tigers made a big move for him following his visit.

"After taking a visit I would say they are in my top two," Thompson says. "Right now I'm not sure (on when he'll make a decision). I'm going to talk to my mother and see how she feels about every thing. Then we'll go from there."

Also considering Mississippi State and Syracuse, Thompson notes that his trip was great because it allowed him to get a feel for the school and also the players on the team. Because of that he says that he feels like he could fit in at Auburn if that's where he decides to play.

"I was very excited," Thompson says. "I met a lot of the players and I feel like I could fit in with them. I met some of the coaches and we talked about how they would use me. I'm really interested in them."

Hosted by fellow South Floridian Antoine Carter, Thompson says that he got a good feel for how the players spend their time away from the field. "It was fun," Thompson says. "We hung out and kind of bonded together over the weekend. If I decide to go up there I know that would only get better."

Among the many activities the players have on a visit weekend, normally one of the highlights is going to the stadium to see the locker rooms and get on the field. Thompson says while he liked that as well, visiting Coach Tommy Tuberville's house was the biggest deal for him.

"Going to the coach's house," Thompson says. "I didn't really expect that."

A defensive player, Thompson says that the coaches really didn't tell him a lot about the coaching search, but did tell him they were keeping things very much the same as they've been in the past. He says that's all he needed to hear.

"They talked about it, but there wasn't much details," Thompson says. "It doesn't really worry me because I talked with my position coaches and they told me how they would use me. I feel like I could fit in."

Thompson says he plans to make at least one more visit before making a decision and it will also be in the SEC West as a trip to Starkville is still set. He notes that it could be his last, but even that is still to be seen.

"Next week I'm going to Mississippi State," Thompson says. "That's probably my last visit, but I'm not sure. That's the next one."
