Bruising Tailback Signs With Auburn

Auburn beat Clemson head-to-head in the Chick-fil-A Bowl on New Year's Eve. Auburn also beat Clemson for the signature of Eric Smith, this time before overtime.

Seffner, Fla.--Talented running back Eric Smith has officially decided to become an Auburn Tiger. The bruising 5-11, 225 running back has filled out his paperwork and signed a letter of intent to go to school on the Plains.

Smith had 1,300 yards and 17 touchdowns his senior year. His junior year, Smith only played in four games because of injuries, yet still rushed for 550 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Smith chose Auburn over Alabama, Clemson, Florida, LSU and West Virginia. It came down to a battle between the Tigers--Auburn and Clemson--for Smith's signature and he announced on Jan. 19.

Smith was one of many prospects who camped at Auburn last June or July.
