Mobile Prospect Signs With the Tigers

A prospect who led his high school team to 10 wins last season signed with Tommy Tuberville's Tigers.

Mobile, Ala.--Williamson High senior Brandon Smith signed with Auburn as expected although it will be several seasons down the road before the talented football player will have a chance to play for the Tigers.

Smith wasn't able to sign with the Tigers on Wednesday because he wasn't officially registered with the NCAA Cearinghouse. A sign to place prospect, Smith is expected to spend the next two falls in junior college working on becoming academically qualified to play Division I football.

A player who lined up at quarterback the past two seasons, he was selected to the Class 5A All-State team as an "athlete" and that is how he is being recruited by the Tigers.

He says that he doesn't care which position he plays when he gets to Auburn. He has also lined up at defensive back, receiver and running back.

"Brandon is a very good football player," Williamson High head coach Bobby Parrish says. "I don't think we would have gone 10-4 without him being our quarterback. We try to get the football in the hands of the best player that we had and he was our best player."
