UGA Holds Off AU Women in SEC Contest

The Auburn women's basketball team dropped a game on Sunday in Athens, Georgia.

Athens, Ga.--The Auburn women's basketball team lost its second straight game and fell to 6-6 in the SEC and 18-9 overall losing 68-56 on Sunday at Georgia.

The Lady Bulldogs, a team Auburn had pounded in a previous meeting this season, improved to 7-5 in the SEC and 20-7 overall.

Dewanna Bonner posted her 12th double-double of the season to lead Auburn with 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead Auburn. Sherrell Hobbs scored 14 for the Tigers.

Auburn trailed by 20 minutes with nine points to play and made it interesting with an 18-4 run, but Georgia regained control of the game in the closing minutes.

"We made a great effort to come back in the second half," Auburn coach Nell Fortner said. "All of the sudden something clicked, and we started to attack the basket. When we did that, we were able to make things happen."

Tasha Humphrey led the Lady Bulldogs with 22 points.

Auburn returns action on Thursday at Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum with an 8 p.m. tipoff vs. Vandy.
