Birmingham, Ala.--Auburn signee Frankie Sullivan scored 51 points on as R.C. Hatch overcame an 18-point second half deficit against Barbour County to win the Alabama Class 2A State Boys Basketball Championship at the BJCC Wednesday night.
Trailing by double figures deep into the fourth quarter after being down 43-27 at the half, Sullivan led a charge for the Bobcats despite being in foul trouble for much of the final 16 minutes of action.
Down 56-45 heading to the fourth quarter, Sullivan led a relentless attack on the offensive and defensive end to lead R.C. Hatch to its fifth state title since he joined the team as a seventh grader. It is the school's 10th overall state title.
Shooting 9-22 from the floor, 28-31 from the free throw line and 5-12 from the three-point line, Sullivan was dominant in his final game for R.C. Hatch. He also added a game-high 13 rebounds in the victory.
Sullivan stole the ball five times, added two assists and had just a single turnover after having none in the semi-final win.
In the two games in Birmingham, Sullivan scored 84 points. His 51 points set a Class 2A record for most points scored in a championship game. R.C. Hatch finished the season 28-1. Sullivan finishes his career as a starter on five state title teams.
