Auburn Football Scrimmage 1 Notes

Auburn, Ala.--News and notes are featured from Auburn's first spring football scrimmage.

*Kodi Burns was in an orange, non-contact jersey along with Neil Caudle. Those two quarterbacks made some great throws throughout the scrimmage, but also made a couple of bad decisions. Burns rated his performance a B.

*Early high school graduate DeRon Furr was in a blue jersey and looked great running the ball. After getting hit out of bounds late by Merrill Johnson, the quarterback took exception and planted Johnson on his back. Offensive coordinator and QB coach Tony Franklin wasn't too thrilled with the fight, saying that a stadium scuffle is different from one back on the practice fields.

*Sophomore offensive guard Chaz Ramsey (sore back) is a little beat up so Byron Isom played right guard with the first unit. Ramsey played just briefly on Saturday.

*Isom filled in at left guard earlier in the week for a hobbled Tyronne Green, and said after the scrimmage that he he believes he had a pretty good scrimmage.

*Receivers Terrell Zachery and Robert Dunn were the two big-play guys throughout the scrimmage. Quindarius Carr also had a long TD from Neil Caudle.

*With Mario Fannin going down early with a shoulder injury and Ben Tate held out of action with a hamstring issue, walk-ons Ryan Hastie (#42) and Anthony Jemison (#24) got chances to run the football. Jemison looked quick and had a productive day. He is the older brother of Marcus Jemison, a safety out of McAdory High in McCalla, Ala., who signed with the Tigers in February. Coach Tommy Tuberville says he hopes that Mario Fannin will be back at practice next week.

*Sophomore receiver Tim Hawthorne was injured in Friday's practice when his arm got hit between two helmets. X-Rays showed a broken bone in his arm and he will likely be out for the spring.

Brad Lester hauls in a touchdown pass on a wheel route in the scrimmage.

*With Chris Todd held out because of a shoulder injury, Kodi Burns, Neil Caudle and DeRon Furr all got a lot of work in the 100-plus play scrimmage Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium. While all had their bright spots, Coach Tommy Tuberville said that Burns was the most consistent of the group throwing the ball. He connected on several nice throws with the best being a touchdown to Brad Lester on a wheel route. Caudle's numbers looked good, but he threw a couple of interceptions, one that was returned for a touchdown by walk-on safety and former QB Jonathan Vickers.

The wide receivers stepped up and made several nice plays. Robert Dunn moved back inside with Tim Hawthorne out because of a broken arm. The move worked well as Dunn was very productive and made several nice runs after the catch. Dunn caught eight passes for 63 yards and one touchdown.

*Receiver Terrell Zachery had his best day as an Auburn Tiger and looks to be fitting in nicely to Tony Franklin's offense. He led all receivers with nine catches for 84 yards and one score.
