News and notes from Thursday's Auburn football practice are featured.
*Defensive line coaches Terry Price and Don Dunn kept their players after practice for extra workouts. The coaches weren't pleased with their group's intensity at Thursday's practice.
*Former Auburn head coach Pat Dye stopped by and watched most of the practice on Thursday.
*Kodi Burns and Neil Caudle got all of the throwing reps at practice. Chris Todd and DeRon Furr participated in running plays. Neither is expected to scrimmage on Saturday. Furr still has a bruised arm from last Saturday's scrimmage.
*The Little Ball of Hate, Tray Blackmon, had several big hits in practice that had coaches and defensive players smiling.
*Walk-on safety Jonathan Vickers continues to have a good spring. He had an interception in the 11 on 11 work on a pass from Kodi Burns. Vickers also got a pick in last Saturday's scrimmage.
*Tommy Trott had another good day catching the football. Both Kodi Burns and Neil Caudle obviously like to throw the football to the big tight end.
*The second team offensive line got a lot of work in practice on Thursday. That group currently includes Mike Berry at center with Kyle Coulahan and Bart Eddins at the guard spots and Jared Cooper and Andrew McCain at tackles.
*Another offensive lineman, Chaz Ramsey, is being held out of practice while the team doctors and trainers try to get his back back to normal. AU coaches aren't sure when the returning starter will be back in action.
*Walt McFadden got an interception in the end zone in the 11 on 11 practice on a deflected pass thrown by Caudle. Defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads notes he is seeing some good things from the cornerback.
*Wes Byrum had a good day kicking field goals into the wind. He was 2-2 from 32 yards out, 2-2 from 37 and 1-2 from 47. He was the only player who kicked field goals in today's practice.
