Auburn Football Scrimmage News and Notes

Auburn, Ala.--News and notes are featured from Auburn's second scrimmage of spring football practice.

*Sen'Derrick Marks had by far his best day of practice this spring at tackle. He was in on four sacks and probably should have got credit for a fifth on a play that wasn't blown dead when he touched the QB.

*Chris Todd saw substantial playing time in the scrimmage after missing the first one with a sore arm. The juco transfer said he felt good about the way he played even though he notes he is a long way from being full speed with his arm strength.

*All three quarterbacks, Todd, Kodi Burns and Neil Caudle got work with the first offense and the second offense.

*QB DeRon Furr is scheduled to return to action after spring break.

*Tight end Tommy Trott continued his strong play this spring. He caught touchdown passes of 40 yards and 10 yards in the scrimmage and had two other catches that were good for 20 yards.

*Jerraud Powers made the only interception of the scrimmage, a circus over the shoulder catch in the end zone.

*Linebacker Chris Evans was around the football a great deal on defense and showed plenty of quickness. The senior predicts the linebackers will be a team strength in 2008.

*Tight end Brent Slusher had a tough day. He dropped two well thrown passes that were potential big yardage gainers.

*Defensive tackle Mike Blanc, who incurred the wrath of defensive line coach Don Dunn for forgetting to bring his helmet to the scrimmage at Jordan-Hare Stadium, bounced back with a performance that featured a good day putting pressure on the quarterbacks.

*Field goal kicker Wes Byrum was two of three in the scrimmage. He was good from 37 and 39 yards out. His attempt from 48 yards was wide left. Morgan Hull was 1-2 on field goals with a make from 37 yards out and he hit the upright on a 48-yard attempt.

*Robert Dunn missed the scrimmage due to a class conflict on Thursday morning. He was the second-leading receiver in the first scrimmage with eight catches.

*Walk-on senior wideout Charles Olatunji continues to have a good spring. He had four catches for 69 yards on Thursday.

*Another wideout, Montez Billings, caught two touchdown passes and caught five passes in the scrimmage.

*Defensive end A.J. Greene, who redshirted last fall as a true freshman, got a sack on Kodi Burns.

*Defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads noted that he saw some good things in the second scrimmage, but added that the Tigers need to become more consistent in a variety of areas.
