Bennett, Hastrup Nominated For Scholarships

Birmingham, Ala.—Cole Bennett of football and Kristen Hastrup of women's swimming have been selected as the candidates from Auburn University for the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship awarded annually by the Southeastern Conference.

Bennett, who caught 29 passes for 312 yards and three touchdowns in his career, is a four-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll. As a tight end from 2003-2007, he played his senior season as a graduate student with a degree in Information Systems Management maintaining a 3.63 grade point average.

Bennett, from Dalton. Ga., is expected to receive a Master's of Science degree in May.

In the classroom Hastrup boasts an impressive 4.00 GPA in Biomedical Science. In the pool she is a three-time All-American and a member of two national championship swimming and diving squads. She is originally from Fresno, Calif.

The SEC presents a $10,000 post-graduate scholarship annually to both a male and female student-athlete. Each school in the conference has one male and female nominee, and the other 22 finalists will receive $5,000 post-graduate scholarships. National Student-Athlete Day is held every year on April 6.
